Diplomat Taxi started as a five car fleet back in 1977 and within a decade grew to be the largest taxi and ground transportation company in the Sarasota - Manatee Counties area. Diplomat's president recognized that customer service was the single most important aspect of a taxi company. He required his drivers to dress like professionals (Diplomat was the first company in the state to have drivers wear ties) and act like professionals (courtesy and professionalism was of the utmost importance). The cars had to be kept clean (regular inspections were instituted) and in good running order (the company set up its own garage with well-qualified mechanics).
